The design team have been frequent visitors to the locale of North Street Scalby, working on several properties for Qdos 5-Star Collection
We had previously worked on 23 and 41 North Street, converting them into luxury self-catering holiday cottages, and it was now the turn of numbers 20 and 38 to undergo a similar transformation.
The amount of work required to turn the former residential properties into commercial holiday lets varied from property to property, From a complete renovation of a neglected mid-terrace at one end to a simple refresh of a former family home at the other.
The overall design intent with all cottages was to optimise the flow of light and maximise the use of space while providing all the comforts and mod-cons expected by today’s holidaymakers and, above all, make their holiday experience memorable.
Walls were removed where it made sense to increase the size of rooms; floors were relaid or recarpeted; doors given a fresh coat of paint and, where possible, fitted with glass panelling to improve ambient light. Kitchens and bathrooms, usually heavy traffic areas, were either renovated or replaced depending on their original condition.
Bold colours and artwork give each property its distinctive character. For example, in No 38, we turned a downstairs bedroom into a games room with 3D panelled wallpaper. A table football game, an arcade game and comfortable seating make this room feel like a “destination” for relaxation and fun.
Down the road at 20 North Street, painted doors, new flooring and a new bathroom were the order of the day, finished with bold wallpaper and toning soft furnishing for more than a splash of colour.
All the properties on North Street have their own unique character brought about by using bold colours, patterns, and textures.
