Our brief was to refurbish Down Hall reception in a manner that continued the expectations of guests arriving in front of the historic building.
The reception is a high traffic area, and space needed opening up to allow circulation, although still had to feel approachable rather than sterile.
The first thing we did was to create a focal point by adding a faux fireplace and chimney breast. The fire itself is a reclaimed antique, in keeping with the era of the building and appears to have been revealed rather than a new addition.
We worked with existing panelling, and added to it, before painting with a bold period colour that makes a statement in itself.

The new parquet floor is real wood effect vinyl – chosen for its acoustic and hard-wearing properties.
Working around two structural columns, we designed a new shape reception desk.
The reception desk itself, although a huge improvement its predecessor, is clad with temporary materials; the availability of its final veneer and marble finishes being delayed by COVID. We hope to have these installed very soon.
The new reception has received many positive comments – and is far more in keeping with a stately home.
